Design Guidelines

Design Guidelines are descriptive, usually in narrative form and are designed to communicate an Owner’s expectations and standards. Design Guidelines are intended to be a fluid document that actively express an Owner’s specific preferences to the Design Professional. These guidelines can either be organized by CSI Master Format Divisions or UniFormat. Design Guidelines can become a significant repository of knowledge of the Owner. They are an effective way to communicate an Owner’s corporate memory to various Design Professionals ensuring the expectation of a consistent level of quality among all projects

Our Process

The process of specification writing for design guidelines is a structured approach to defining clear, consistent, and actionable standards for design and development. It involves multiple phases, starting with developing the structure and content, followed by reviewing, testing, and refining to ensure accuracy and usability. The final step is to finalize and distribute the specifications, ensuring they are accessible and effectively implemented by all stakeholders. This process ensures that design expectations are well-documented, enforceable, and aligned with project objectives, ultimately leading to a cohesive and high-quality end product.
